Case study: Accenture Digital

About the project:

Accenture is a global management consulting and professional services company that provides strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations services.

Spearhead Interactive worked with Accenture as technology sponsors to create and deliver a Mixed Reality experience for the 2017 RBS 6 Nations Rugby tournament. Using a camera and green-screen technology we were able to place the user within the experience we created for other guests and VIPs to watch through external monitors.

The solution we designed in collaboration consisted of four main parts so as to create an emotional and contextual narrative to meet the brief of the project and ensure users enjoy their time spent engaging with the content.

Part 1: The tutorial

Users are eased into the experience through an interactive tutorial introducing them to the core mechanic of the experience; picking up and throwing a rugby ball.

This is completed using the Oculus Touch controllers; using one hand to pick up and throw, and the other to point and aim.

Part 2: Empowerment

After mastering the core mechanic, we wanted the user to feel a sense of empowerment within the virtual world.

To achieve this we use a gesture command to raise the stadium up from the ground, with users lifting their hands, palms upwards to activate the functionality.

Part 3: Analytics

The core of the experience is the analytics system, enabling the user to view information on a range of statistics.

This is achieved by throwing the ball, first to a player (this selects data from a paticularPart country) and then knocking down a target corresponding to the relevant information.

Part 4: Mini-Game

In order to finish on a high, users are prompted to press a red button once they have finished viewing the analytics. This launches a mini-game where users have to catch rugby balls as they rain from the sky.

A scoring system is in place to provide a competitive aspect to the experience, with the frantic and fun nature of the mini-game ensuring all visitors left with a smile.
